What it does

Everything you'd reach for your phone to do.

Built for the remote, not squeezed onto it. Every control works with the D-pad.

01

Lights

On, off, dim, pick a color. The switch takes the color of the bulb, so you can tell at a glance.

02

Climate

Mode, temperature and fan speed — only the ones your air conditioner actually supports. It re-reads the real state after every change.

03

Scenes, covers, locks

Run a scene. Open the blinds. Lock the door. One press each, and sensors stay live in the same list.

04

Cameras

A look right in the panel. OK makes it bigger, OK again fills the screen. Works with any camera Home Assistant has.

05

Doorbell window

Tie a doorbell button or a motion sensor to a camera. When it fires, a small window appears over your show.

06

Private

Talks to Home Assistant over your home network. No cloud, no account, no ads, nothing collected.

How to use it

Learn it in four presses.

Scroll. The panel on the right does what the remote does.

01

Press your key

Pick any remote key in Settings. From any app, pressing it slides the panel over what you're watching.

02

Move, then OK

Up and down walk through your devices. OK switches the one you're on.

03

Hold OK for more

Hold OK on a light for brightness and colors, on an AC for mode, temperature and fan. Left and right adjust.

04

Back to close

Back slides the panel away. Your show never stopped.

Your key, set in Settings

On a camera row, OK opens a bigger view and OK again goes full screen.

Doorbell

When it rings, you see who.

Link a doorbell button or motion sensor to any Home Assistant camera. A small window opens over your show for as long as you choose. Back closes it. It works while you're in another app.

FAQ

Questions

Which TVs does it work on?

Android TV and Google TV. Tested on Android 7.1 and Android 11. Not on Apple TV or LG webOS: those systems don't let an app draw over another app.

Do I need an account or the cloud?

No. FlickBar talks straight to your Home Assistant on your local network.

Why does it ask for the accessibility permission?

It's the only way Android lets an app notice a remote key while another app is on screen. FlickBar uses it for exactly that, and to draw the doorbell window. It does not read your screen or what you type.

Is my login safe?

You sign in on your own Home Assistant page with a QR code. FlickBar only receives an access token, stored encrypted on the TV.

Which languages?

English, Türkçe, Deutsch, Français, Español, Italiano, Português, Nederlands, Polski and Русский. It follows the TV's language; you can change it in Settings.

When can I get it?

It's in testing and coming to Google Play. Write to us to join the beta.
